Student participation in the Beyond Traffic national town hall meeting at DOT HQ

On Tuesday, April 21, 2015, the U.S. Department of Transportation hosted an in-person and virtual, nationwide Town Hall about Beyond Traffic, a draft framework about the future of transportation in America. In attendance from the NTC@Maryland were Dr. Lei Zhang, Mark Franz, Reuben Juster (UMD Alumnus and Faculty Research Assistant at the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology), Eirini Kastrouni (Ph.D. student), Sepehr Ghader (Master’s student), Michael Maness (recent Ph.D. graduate), Cory Krause (Ph.D. student and Research Civil Engineer at Turner Fairbanks Highway Research Center), Elham Shayanfar (Master’s Student), and Charles “Bucky” Cotterman (undergraduate student). During the event the faculty and students from the NTC@Maryland participated by providing comments and questions on the content in the draft version of the US DOT document “Beyond Traffic 2045: Trends and Choices” which summarizes the forecasted trends, challenges, and potential solutions for the future of US transportation. The event also allowed for interaction with other students and faculty from neighboring universities including George Mason University, Virginia Tech, and Catholic University.
