Ph.D. candidate Ali Asadabadi wins 1st prize at 2016 WINFORMS competition

Ph.D. candidate Ali Asadabadi won 1st prize in the 2016 WINFORMS Student Excellence Award competition. He presented his NTC-funded project, “Objective Decision-Making Tools for Transportation Infrastructure Investments to Combat the Impacts of Sea Level Rise”, supervised by Dr. Miller-Hooks. Competition was held on April 19th at Lockheed Martin in Arlington.

WINFORMS is the Washington, D.C. chapter of the professional society INFORMS, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. This is the third time the student paper competition has been held; Lockheed Martin is the sponsor. The focus of the Student Excellence Award competition is the advancement of Operations Research methodologies to solve real-world problems.

Ali Asadabadi is a 3rd year PhD Student in Transportation Engineering Program at UMD. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and Transportation Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. His research interests include Operations Research, Stochastic Modeling and Optimization, Transportation Networks’ Resiliency especially against impacts of Climate Change Impacts. He is currently working on another NTC-funded project entitled “Protecting Global Maritime -based Intermodal Freight Distribution Systems from the Impacts of Climate Change” supervised by Dr. Miller-Hooks.
