UMD CEE graduate student, Mr. Yanshuo Sun, has been recently awarded two academic scholarships from the Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) and the China Scholarship Council (CSC). The ACI-NA Commissioners Scholarship was established in 1993 to recognize students with high academic achievement who are working toward a career in airport management or airport operations. The CSC scholarship program sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China was founded in 2003 to reward the academic excellence of self-financed Chinese students studying overseas. Only those with outstanding performance in their PhD studies are considered by the award selection panel and no more than 500 young talents will be granted the award each year all over the world.

Mr. Sun is a 4th-year Ph.D. student advised by Prof. Paul Schonfeld and currently working on the project “Integrated, Personalized, Real-time Traveler Information and Incentive (iPretii)” funded by the Department of Energy. His PhD dissertation is on coordinated airport facility development, and is funded by a graduate research award from the Federal Aviation Administration through a national competition. He recently defended his master’s thesis on freight reliability, based on research which was sponsored by the National Transportation Center (NTC) @ Maryland. He has published 7 peer-refereed journal articles as the first author. He received his B.S. from Southwest Jiaotong University and M.S. from Tongji University in China, both in Transportation Engineering. He expects to finish his doctoral program in August, 2016 and will work as a postdoc for the NTC after graduation.
