Building on successful collaboration in 2014, the NTC@Maryland collaborated with the I-95 Corridor Coalition Freight Academy by offering two scholarships for exceptional program nominees. This year’s award winners were Subrat Mahapatra and L'Kiesha Markley from the Maryland State Highway Administration. Congratulations Subrat and L'Kiesha!

Upon earning the award L'Kiesha Markley said "I am so excited to be accepted into the Freight Academy and am looking forward to this tremendous opportunity. I am thankful that the UMD NTC scholarship offers professionals the chance to participate in this program during challenging fiscal times for state governments. I look forward to expanding my knowledge of the Freight industry so I can apply what I’ve learned to the Freight Program at MD SHA."

In addition to providing scholarships the NTC@Maryland was actively involved in developing the capstone projects for the participants. At this year’s Academy, Mark Franz presented an overview of the impact of freight movements on the U.S. economy and provided guidance on successfully tackling the capstone projects. Mark will also continue to work with the capstone groups to develop the final capstone reports and presentations.
