NTC@Maryland Sponsored Seminar Series: Prof. Refael Hassin
ITS Student Chapter Invited Speaker Series, Sponsored by National Transportation Center @ Maryland
On June 4th, 2014, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Wednesday, Prof. Refael Hassin from Department of Statistics and Operations Research, Telaviv University, gave a research presentation in the CEE Main Conference Room, University of Maryland, College Park. The topic is “Rational Queueing”.
The talk briefly describes main achievements in queueing models that have several decision makers with conflicting goals. Thus it combines simple ideas from game theory (mainly that of a Nash equilibrium) and queueing theory. Early contributions to the subject have been covered in the book ''To queue or not to queue: equilibrium behavior in queueing systems'' http://www.math.tau.ac.il/~hassin/book.html in 2003 and the talk also describes more recent developments, many of them by Hassin and co-authors. The talk avoids the mathematical derivations and concentrates on the qualitative insights of such systems.
Dr. Refael Hassin, Professor in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research of Telaviv University. Prof. Hassin received Ph.D at Yale University in 1978. Research interests: Combinatorial optimization, approximation algorithms, network flows, strategic queueing.
