NTC@Maryland exhibits at the US DOT Smart City Forum

On Tuesday, December 15 the NTC@Maryland participated as an exhibitor at the US DOT Smart City Forum. The event held at the US DOT Headquarters in Washington, D.C. featured presentations and panel discussions on the essential elements for creating smart and connected cities across America. This topic has been gaining interest based on the results published in the US DOT Beyond Traffic: US DOT’s 30 Year Framework for the Future document, which can be viewed at:

The event also promoted the US DOT Smart City Challenge which will award one mid-sized city with up to $40 Million in funding to address population increases and growing demands on transportation infrastructure using data driven methods to create safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation options. This opportunity encourages academic, public, and private sector collaboration to design, test, and implement the technologies needed to address the growing challenges of urban transportation. As an exhibitor, the NTC@Maryland featured their research related to Smart City applications such as the development of smart phone apps for route and mode guidance, Integrated Corridor Management (ICM), connected vehicles, and active traffic management systems (ATMS).
