Mark Franz Wins CUTC Student of the Year Award

Mark Franz was annonced the winner of annual University Transportation Center Student of the Year Award. The award was given by the US DOT University Transportation Centers Program during a banquet held at Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC on Jan 11, 2014. 

Mr. Mark Franz was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He received his bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Florida in 2006. Upon earning his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University in 2009, Mr. Franz enrolled as a Ph. D. student at the University of Maryland where he will graduate in the spring of 2014. Mr. Franz was selected for this award because he has demonstrated his leadership in promoting ITS student activities, interacting with ITS public and private sectors, and assisting in recruiting new students to the transportation program. Currently Mr. Franz is the Assistant Director of Outreach and Technology Transfer for the National Transportation Center at the University of Maryland, a Faculty Research Assistant at the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology, and an Adjunct Professor at UMD.
