Jina Mahmoudi Wins Scholarship

Jina Mahmoudi

Ms. Jina Mahmoudi has been selected as the winner of the 2016 Graduate Scholarship of the Intelligent Transportation Society of Maryland (ITS Maryland). Jina is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Transportation Engineering Program at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Maryland. Her academic advisor is Dr. Lei Zhang, and her dissertation research is focused on investigating the link between non-motorized travel behavior, built environment characteristics and community health.

Jina is a licensed Professional Engineer (Maryland) and has gained practical experience in transportation engineering and planning through years of employment at private and non-profit sectors. Prior to becoming a full-time doctorate student in 2014, she served as the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ (ITE) Planning and Engineering Projects Director for several years. In her time with ITE, she conducted research on topics related to trip generation, parking demand, transportation impact analysis for site development and sustainable transportation. Additionally, she led the development process of several transportation engineering publications including the Trip Generation Manual (8th and 9th editions) as well as the Parking Generation Report (4th edition). During her tenure at ITE, she also worked on many ITS-related projects including developing and updating materials for ITS Standards.
