Dr. Lei Zhang (Associate Professor of CEE, Director of the National Transportation Center) won one of the four awards nationally from the U.S. Congress's Second Strategic Highway Research ProgramFederal Highway Administration and Maryland State Highway Administration to develop and implement newer-generation dynamic travel analysis and modeling systems. The $1.06 million research award to UMD includes $700k federal fund and $360k non-federal fund. These modeling tools now under development at UMD will help transportation agencies both make long-term investment decisions and develop short-term operational strategies as they fight congestion and address sustainability. This win further establishes the National Transportation Center at Maryland (NTC@Maryland) as a national leader in transportation systems modeling and decision-support.
